Introduction

The AHORNsimple (An Application of Excel-Based AHP methOd to solve multiple criteRia raNking problems - simple version) is an application designed on principles of Analytic Hierarchy Process - AHP (Saaty, T.L., 1980. The Analytic Hierarchy Process. Planning, Priority setting, Resource allocation. McGraw-Hill, New York) to support decision process while multiple criteria ranking problem is considered. AHORNsimple is a registered trademark (Registration: EUTM 018143131).

AHORNsimple(TM) can support solution of a complex decision problems limited to 9 criteria and 9 alterna-tives. Simple version means that subcriteria are not aplicable there. The possibility of considering up to 9 criteria and 9 alternatives is intentional. Based on Miller’s research in a psychology domain Saaty has proved that a human qualitative distinction is practically meaningful if the number of simultaneously compared items is limited to 7 ± 2.

The AHORNsimple(TM) is an application designed in Microsoft Excel environment, which makes it operatio-nally useful regardless of the operating system the user is working on. It also does not require any installation procedures; it is ready for use. For more practical information regarding  please refer to section Manual, see below.

A methodological background

Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is a complex methodology proposed by Thomas L. Saaty in 80. of the last century (Saaty, T.L., 1980. The Analytic Hierarchy Process. Planning, Priority setting, Resource allocation. McGraw-Hill, New York). The principles of AHP are based on utility theory and this method is applied to solve multiple criteria ranking problems.
